King Canute (or "Knut")
Born in Denmark in about 995, he died on 12 November 1035 in Shaftesbury. He was crowned on 6 January 1017 in St. Paul´s Cathedral. Two years later, he succeeded his brother as King of Denmark. In 1030, he conquered Norway and became the master of a vast Scandinavian empire.
