King Henry VII

Henry Tudor was the only child of Edmund Tudor, Earl of Richmond (a half-brother of King Henry VI) and his wife, Lady Margaret Beaufort (who was descended from Edward III). He was born at Pembroke Castle on 28 January 1457, a legitimate heir of the Lancastrians. On 22 August 1485, his army fought the battle at Bosworth against the troops of King Richard III. The King was killed, and Henry became his successor. Henry VII married Elizabeth of York (eldest daughter of King Edward IV) on 18 January 1486, uniting the two Houses that fought the "War of the Roses", and ending the quarrels for ever. He died on 21 April 1509 at Richmond Palace.
