King George I
The Hanoverians were related to the British Royals via King James I´s eldest daughter, who was the grandmother of George Louis. He was born on 7 June 1660 at the Leineschloß, Hanover, which is in today´s Northern Germany. He first visited England in 1680, but the thought of marrying his cousin Anne (Queen Anne later, daughter of future King James II) didn´t appeal to both, as they developed a deep antipathy towards each other. 20 years later, when the last son of then Princess Anne died and the government was looking for a successor, it was decided that the Hanoverians should follow the Stuarts on the throne. In October 1714, a few weeks after Queen Anne´s death, King George I was crowned. He was the first one up to King William IV who was Elector of Hanover as well, which forced them to spend some time at their possessions in Hanover as well. King George I died at Osnabrück, Germany, on 22 June 1727.
