King Edward IV

Born at Rouen on 28 August 1442; his parents, the 3rd Duke of York and Cicely, both descended from King Edward III. Along the "War of the Roses", King Henry VI was deposed and Edward was declared King in parliament on 4 March 1461. He was crowned at Westminster Abbey on 29 June 1461. In 1470/71, the Lancastrians and King Henry VI were back at force, but the decisive battle at Barnet and the death of Henry VI soon afterwards put an end to the Lancastrian hopes (the "Red Rose"). Edward IV returned and reigned until his death on 9 April 1483, when he died of pneumonia caught on a fishing trip.

Here are his signatures as "Earl of March" (top-left), his full signature as King (top-right), his usual monogram as King (bottom-left) and a rare variation of his monogram (bottom-right).
